Our History

In the summer of 1978, our founder and original owner Michael Gasdia started a small chimney sweep business to help meet what he perceived as an unmet need in his community. When the company first began, Michael cleaned and inspected chimneys just in the Maryland area. But it wasn’t long before it became clear that his services were needed in Delaware as well, and just one year later Fire-Free expanded it’s business to the First State. Ever since then, Fire-Free Chimney Sweeps has been providing top-quality, reliable service to thousands of homes throughout Maryland and Delaware - and has proven their place as Maryland and Delaware’s most trusted chimney service company.

But in all that time, the business never outgrew its humble origins as family-owned business. In fact, even as Michael took a step back from his primary role of owning and running the business in 2023, he handed the reigns over to his son and our current owner, Brandon Gasdia. Brandon has been working for Fire-Free for over a decade - learning the ins and outs of chimney service to ensure that when the time came for his father to pass on the business our customers would be in good hands. Now over 40 years into our history, we’re looking forward to the next 40 years of meeting any and all of your chimney needs!
